A new system for helping obese children will be introduced in the Urals
New rules for monitoring obese or overweight children have begun to take effect in the Sverdlovsk Region. The corresponding order was signed by the Regional Minister of Health Tatiana Savinova. It is expected that this will lead to a unified standard of medical care for children with weight problems. The measures are a comprehensive approach to solving the problems of childhood obesity, which are becoming increasingly relevant.
The order says that the document was developed in accordance with federal standards and clinical guidelines in order to implement a set of measures to combat childhood obesity, which was approved by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. This is necessary to improve children's medical care and combat the problem of excess weight.
According to the <url> news agency, the key innovation is a clear patient routing scheme, when separate assistance is provided to overweight children and patients with diagnosed obesity. This will make it possible to standardize the child's path from the initial admission to the appointment of a specialized specialist.
According to Lyubov Malyamova, chief freelance pediatrician at the regional Ministry of Health, the number of children diagnosed with obesity in Russia has increased many times over the past 40 years: among girls, the rate has increased from 0.7% to 5.6%, among boys — from 0.9% to 7.5%. In the Sverdlovsk region, the number of cases of childhood obesity has increased 1.5 times over the past 5 years.
Earlier, the journal Nature wrote that eating at an early age can have a long-term effect on brain function and human eating habits. Scientists have found that a diet high in sugar and fat in childhood can cause lasting changes in the brain mechanisms responsible for appetite and food intake control. These effects persist even after giving up an unhealthy diet and normalizing body weight.
