The media reported on the invasion of locusts in the Canary Islands
Popular resorts in the Canary Islands have been invaded by locusts. This was reported on February 25 by the Daily Mail newspaper.
"A warning has been issued in four popular Spanish resort towns about the need to remain calm after the locust invasion of the Canary Islands," the article says.
The authorities of Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura insist that the giant insects do not pose a danger to the public, but warn that they may threaten crops. Videos are being distributed on social media showing hundreds of insects circling the countryside.
The locusts were presumably blown in from Western Sahara after the recent warm and humid weather.
The Icelandic Institute of Natural History (IINH) recorded the first case of mosquitoes in Iceland last October. It was noted that in early October of this year, three mosquitoes were found on the island of Kyos — this was the first time such insects were found in the country.
