A Russian citizen was detained in Colombia on charges of terrorism.
The Colombian police, through the Office of Criminal Investigations (DIJIN) and Interpol, detained Denis Alimov, a Russian citizen wanted by the United States for terrorism-related crimes, at Bogota airport. This was reported to Izvestia on February 25 by the Colombian Interpol.
"Specialized investigators were sent to El Dorado International Airport, which carried out strategic control, given that the suspect could have presented the original passport, as well as other previously identified identities and aliases, in order to avoid prosecution... The man was successfully located and detained upon arrival in the country," Interpol said in a statement.
According to an investigation conducted in the United States, Alimov participated in a conspiracy to murder two well-known European figures between October 2024 and March 2025. He paid for $60,000 of the mercenaries' expenses and promised to pay another $1.5 million for each murder committed.
Interpol clarified that the violator had been handed over to the local Office of International Affairs of the Prosecutor General's Office, and preparations were underway for his extradition.
On February 3, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office reported that the Kingdom of Morocco had extradited Russian citizen Dmitry Leonov, who was accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization. So, according to the investigation, in 2012, the man was in Syria and acted there as a Sharia judge in an illegal formation. Later, in 2015, this association became part of the Jabhat al-Nusra organization banned in the Russian Federation.
