- Orban announced increased protection of energy facilities from possible actions by Ukraine
Hungary will take additional measures to protect critical infrastructure from further possible actions by Ukraine. On February 25, Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote about this on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization in the Russian Federation).
"We will not tolerate bullying <...>. The Ukrainian government is putting pressure on the governments of Hungary and Slovakia with its oil blockade. But they are not stopping there, they are preparing for further actions to disrupt the functioning of the Hungarian energy system," he wrote.
According to the head of the Hungarian government, military personnel and equipment will be deployed near key energy facilities.
Prior to that, on February 11, Orban said that the European Union's plan to partially admit Ukraine to the EU by 2027, bypassing the Hungarian veto, was a threat to his country. At the same time, he said that this event would entail the destruction of Hungarian agriculture and the agro-industrial complex.
The Politico newspaper reported that the EU is preparing a five-point project to grant Ukraine partial membership in the bloc as early as 2027. The plan involves overcoming Hungary's veto. The publication writes that the EU is counting on Orban's loss in the April elections.
