In case of acute toothache, it is important to avoid warming up before visiting a doctor and use cold to reduce swelling and discomfort. Maria Volkova, a dental surgeon and dental implantologist at the SM-Dentistry clinic, told Izvestia about this on February 28.

First of all, the specialist recommended using cold for 15-20 minutes. According to her, a cold compress helps to reduce the severity of pain and slow down the development of edema. At the same time, it is important to avoid direct contact of ice with the skin — it must be wrapped in a thick cloth or paper towel so as not to cause hypothermia of the tissues.

"Thermal procedures for toothache are contraindicated. Warming up the area of inflammation, hot compresses, or attempts to "warm" the cheek can only increase blood flow to the inflammation site, which will lead to increased pain and faster development of edema," the dentist emphasized.

Volkova also drew attention to the need for careful but careful oral hygiene. The accumulation of food residues and plaque can exacerbate the inflammatory process and increase pain, so even with severe discomfort, it is important to carefully clean the teeth and interdental spaces.

Dental gels with local anesthetics can be used for temporary relief of the condition, Volkova added. In addition, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can have a positive effect. These medications not only reduce pain, but also have an anti-inflammatory effect and enhance the effect of anesthesia during further dental treatment.

At the same time, the doctor reminded that before taking any medications, it is necessary to take into account possible contraindications and the risk of allergic reactions, and ideally consult a specialist beforehand.

"All of these measures are purely temporary and do not replace full-fledged treatment. If a toothache occurs, it is necessary to consult a dentist as soon as possible to determine the cause and conduct the necessary therapy," the doctor concluded.

On February 25, Arina Sozinova, dentist-therapist at SM-Dentistry, said that regular tongue cleaning helps to prevent ENT diseases and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, and also helps to maintain the sensitivity of taste buds. In addition, the specialist said that the surface of the tongue has a complex relief. Numerous papillae form a vast uneven area, in the recesses of which food particles linger and bacteria accumulate. As a result, the language becomes a kind of "depot" of microflora.
