- Mishustin spoke about the involvement of employers by the Russian authorities to support families
The Russian authorities actively involve employers in family support issues. One of these measures will be an increase in the non-taxable amount to be provided to citizens at the birth of a child. This was announced on February 25 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
"We are actively involving employers in the support of families. On behalf of the president [of Russia Vladimir Putin], from January 1, they increased the maximum amount, tax—free and insurance-free, that they can provide to employees at the birth of a child, from 50,000 to one million rubles," he said during a speech in the State Duma with a report on the work of the government for 2025.
According to the Prime Minister, companies will independently determine the amount of such corporate payments. Mishustin also said that the government has prepared everything necessary to launch the annual family payment mechanism, which more than 4 million families will be able to use.
He added that this measure will affect working parents with two children or more, whose income is below one and a half regional subsistence levels.
In addition, the Prime Minister called the social contract mechanism a good example of a family support tool, stressing that the Russian authorities will continue to develop such practices.
"This tool has become a good example of how one can cope with financial difficulties with one's own work and with the assistance of the state. Most of those who signed it last year improved the financial situation of their family," Mishustin said.
According to him, the state policy in Russia is built around the interests of families, and this makes it possible to provide guarantees of support to the population.
On February 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin named demography a priority for the state for years to come. He stressed that improving the quality of life of the population is directly related to solving the problems of demographic development.
Prior to that, on February 11, Mishustin announced that the government of the Russian Federation was preparing amendments that would allow large families to receive social benefits even if they slightly exceed the established income criterion. According to him, the exact amount of the payment will depend on the region of residence.
