The labor market situation is currently stable, and the low unemployment rate of 2.2% achieved in 2025 has been maintained. This was announced on February 25 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, delivering a report from the Russian government to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

"The labor market situation is stable. We still have a low unemployment rate of 2.2%. And if a person wants to get a new specialty and thereby increase earnings, we help with that," he said.

The Russian Prime Minister clarified that government officials are consistently increasing the minimum wage, which is an important issue. This factor, as he explained, deprives the employer of the right to charge wages below the established rate. Mishustin stressed that the values he mentioned were raised by 16.5% in 2025, and another fifth was added in the first months of 2026.

"Now [the minimum wage] has reached an absolute figure of 27 thousand rubles, which has affected over 4.5 thousand people," he summed up.

According to the data of the national statistical services studied on February 9, Russia recorded the lowest unemployment rate among the G20 countries in 2025. It was noted that a positive trend was also observed in Mexico, where this figure was 2.4%, but a negative trend was noted in Japan (2.6%), South Africa (South Africa) — 31.9%, as well as in France and Turkey (7.7% each).

Viktor Lyashok, a senior researcher at the RANEPA Institute for Social Analysis and Forecasting, clarified on January 30 that the maximum amount of unemployment benefits in Russia after the planned indexation from February 1, 2026 is about 15,886 rubles. He explained that the indexation of the allowance was 5.6%.
