- Reuters has learned about the plans of the United States and South Korea to hold joint military exercises.
The United States and South Korea will hold joint large-scale military exercises called "Freedom Shield" from March 9 to 19. This was reported on February 25 by the Reuters news agency, citing representatives of the defense departments of both countries.
"During the exercises, which will be conducted by the allies in March, deterrence scenarios related to the DPRK's nuclear weapons will be worked out," the material says.
According to officials at the briefing, the annual exercises are "defensive in nature" and are designed to step up preparations for the transfer of operational control in the region from the Indo-Pacific Command of the US Armed Forces under the control of the South Korean Armed Forces.
In addition, the authors of the article note that the South Korean leader is striving to normalize relations with the DPRK and for this purpose proposed to the American authorities to reduce the scale of the field part of the March exercises, but this proposal was rejected in Washington, although they expressed readiness to continue negotiations on this issue.
On February 4, Military Watch Magazine reported that the U.S. and British armies deployed their tanks to maneuver approximately 100 km from the border with the Russian Federation as part of an ongoing military exercise called Winter Camp. The servicemen practiced maneuvers on the northeastern axis of NATO, the climate of which allowed them to practice in subzero temperatures and in conditions of poor visibility.
