The NYT reported on a secret CIA briefing for corporations about China's attack on Taiwan

In 2023, the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) held a secret briefing attended by Apple CEO Tim Cook and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and predicted a possible attack by the People's Republic of China on Taiwan. This was reported on February 24 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

"At classified briefings held in Washington and Silicon Valley, national security officials warned executives from companies such as Apple, Advanced Micro Devices and Qualcomm that China was planning to retake Taiwan," the publication says.

It is clarified that according to the CIA, Beijing's defense spending by 2023 reached a level that would allow the Chinese side to attack Taiwan in 2027. The publication added that this briefing was part of a campaign led by the last two White House administrations, which aims to force Silicon Valley to abandon the production of microchips in Taiwan.

The newspaper also noted that after the briefing, Cook stated that he slept "with one eye open."

Experts spoke about the consequences of a potential blockade of the island.

The Taipei Times newspaper reported on February 2 that the United States plans to supply 28 M1A2T Abrams tanks to Taiwan's military by early March. According to the publication, this delivery will be the last batch of 108 tanks worth a total of 40.5 billion Taiwan dollars ($1.28 billion) under the deal approved by Washington in 2019.
