Heavy rains that hit the state of Minas Gerais have killed 30 people, and 39 more are missing. CNN Brasil reported this on February 24, citing data from the state's Military Fire Department (CBM-MG).

"In the cities, 39 people were left homeless after the disaster. During the early morning hours, 13 people were rescued from the rubble caused by the flood. According to rescuers, a total of 208 people were rescued," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the victims were recorded in the cities of Juiz de Fora and Uba in the Zona da Mata region. The disaster caused floods, landslides and widespread destruction.

Thus, intense rainfall led to flooding of streets, disruption of vital services and created a threat to the most vulnerable categories of the population, including elderly residents of a nursing home trapped in a flood zone.

The Reuters news agency reported earlier in the day that at least 14 people were killed due to heavy rains that hit the city of Juiz de Fora in southeastern Brazil. A state of emergency has been declared in connection with the natural disaster in the city. Federal and state rescue agencies were involved in the elimination of the consequences of heavy rains and floods.
