Chess player Garry Kasparov (recognized in Russia as a foreign agent and included in the list of terrorists and extremists) was accused in absentia of evading the duties of a foreign agent. This was confirmed on February 25 by the materials of the case, which were reviewed by RIA Novosti.

On December 23, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow informed Izvestia of the receipt of a petition for Kasparov's arrest in absentia. He was charged in accordance with Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public justification of terrorism using information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet").
