Gas supply through the "vertical corridor" through which Budapest receives Russian gas will not be enough for Hungary. This was announced on February 24 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"The current capacity of the vertical corridor is not enough to fully supply Hungary. Not to mention that supplies on this route are currently 20% more expensive than on other routes leading to Hungary," he said during a speech at the US Institute of Peace broadcast by M1 TV channel.

Szijjarto announced on February 2 that Hungary had filed a lawsuit in the European Court of Justice against the European Union (EU) ban on the import of Russian energy resources. He explained that the lawsuit demands the repeal of the Brussels resolution REPowerEU, prohibiting EU countries from buying Russian oil and gas. Szijjarto also called this decision legally unjustified.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed on January 28 that the EU's plans to abandon Russian gas are Europe's problem. He added that European countries are abandoning the most competitive Russian piped or liquefied natural gas and condemning themselves to dependence on a small number of US gas sources at very high prices.
