Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said on February 24 that the country's authorities would ensure the safety of the guests of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the ongoing unrest in the country.

"All guarantees, no risks," TUDN TV channel quotes her response to a question about providing security guarantees to visitors to the World Cup.

For the first time, the World Cup will be held in three countries at once — the USA, Mexico and Canada.

On February 22, the Milenio newspaper reported on the liquidation of the head of the El Mencho drug cartel in the state of Jalisco. The country's Minister of National Defense, Ricardo Treviglia Trejo, noted that the Mexican armed forces reached El Mencho through his mistress.

The Athletic portal reported on February 24 that the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) may postpone the 2026 World Cup play-off matches from the Mexican city of Guadalajara due to protests in the country.
