- A court in Ukraine has sentenced singer Yulia Chicherina to 12 years in prison in absentia.
The Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kiev has sentenced Russian rock singer Yulia Chicherina to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property in absentia. This was announced on February 24 by the press service of the instance on its Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization in the Russian Federation).
The singer was found guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. She is accused of allegedly encroaching on the territorial integrity of the country, desecrating the national flag, illegally crossing the border, etc.
It is noted that the verdict was passed as part of a "special proceeding." The punishment will take effect in case of Chicherina's detention on the territory of Ukraine, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".
In October 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) charged Chicherina with suspicion under a number of articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code. One of the reasons for these charges was a video on the singer's YouTube channel, in which the artist calls on members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to lay down their weapons and surrender.
Chicherina herself then called the SBU's suspicions an attempt to distract Ukrainians from the real state of affairs in the country. She also called on the citizens of Ukraine to come to their senses and suggested that they change the leadership of the Kiev regime.
