Coach of Zenit volleyball club Alekno fined for profanity
Vladimir Alekno, the head coach of Zenit St. Petersburg volleyball club, was fined 100,000 rubles for violating the disciplinary and Ethical Code of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFB). This follows from a document published on the official WWF website on February 24.
According to the document, Alekno used profanity and insulting words against an official during the match against Belogorye on February 15. The decision on sanctions was made by the Disciplinary and ethical commission of the WWF.
Alekno holds the record for the number of Russian champion titles as a coach. He led Zenit Kazan to the championship nine times and Dynamo Moscow once. He has eight wins in the Russian Cup and eight in the Super Cup. With Zenit, Alekno won the Champions League five times and became the club world champion in 2017.
In 2012, the 59-year-old specialist led the Russian men's national team to victory at the Olympic Games in London, and also won the World League and the World Cup with the team in 2011.
On February 12, it was reported that the head coach of the Finnish national ski jumping team, Igor Medved, was suspended from the 2026 Olympics due to alcohol consumption. Medved himself apologized for his actions and wished the team a good job during the competition.
