The astronomer pointed out the beneficial effects of a decrease in solar activity
Astronomer, Head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) RAS Sergey Bogachev said that a decrease in solar activity is beneficial for humans.
In conversation with aif.ru On February 23, the expert noted that for the first time since December 2021, no spots have been observed on the Sun, and for the first time since 2024, flare activity has decreased to zero.
The specialist explained that, judging by the complaints about high solar activity, the current situation is probably favorable, although such a quiet period is less interesting for science. According to him, the Sun's activity will almost certainly recover in a few days or at most weeks.
At the same time, there is no scientific evidence of the effect of solar flares on the human body. However, during geomagnetic storms, many people complain of feeling unwell, especially those who suffer from chronic diseases. Also, during such periods, anxiety, irritability, and sleep problems may increase.
On Wednesday, February 25, experts predict a generally calm geomagnetic situation on Earth. However, despite the extremely low solar activity, it is impossible to completely exclude periods of disturbances, notes 360.ru .
On February 22, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the IKI RAS reported that there are currently no spots on the Earth-facing side of the Sun. According to scientists, sunspots are associated with the concentration of the magnetic field. They are considered to be an almost permanent element of the solar surface. Dark areas of the surface are formed in places with the highest concentration of magnetic flux, writes RT.
Scientists reported that now the Sun looks like a flat disk without noticeable features, IA Regnum clarifies. The laboratory noted that the last time the star was completely spotless was on December 11, 2021. Life.ru . It is emphasized that the disappearance of spots occurs only during periods of very low solar activity, writes NSN.
Experts recalled that there have already been long periods of declining solar activity in history. One of the most famous is the Maunder Minimum, which lasted from 1645 to 1715 and fell during the coldest phase of the Little Ice Age. kp.ru .
