The US military command has significantly strengthened the grouping near Iran, deploying more than 150 aircraft to bases in Europe and the Middle East. This was reported on February 24 by The Washington Post (WP), citing flight tracking data and satellite imagery.

"The American armed forces have rapidly increased their presence near Iran, deploying more than 150 aircraft to bases in Europe and the Middle East since the second round of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran ended without a breakthrough on February 17, according to publicly available flight tracking data and satellite imagery," the material says.

At least 10 F-35 fighter jets, tanker planes and reconnaissance aircraft were spotted at Chania Airport in Crete. The strike group with the aircraft carriers USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford carries dozens of Tomahawk cruise missiles, which were already used against Iranian targets in June. According to experts, the United States is preparing for a large-scale but rapid strike to minimize the risks.

"The enormous level of accumulated force means that the US military can use whatever Trump decides, from a prolonged, very dynamic campaign to more targeted, limited strikes," said Dana Strawl, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East.

American leader Donald Trump said on February 23 that a "very bad day" could come for Iran if the state in Central Asia does not conclude a deal with the United States.

Trump said at a White House press conference on February 20 that Iran should have made a deal with the United States. Prior to this, the American leader, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), allowed the option of a limited strike on Iran in order to force Tehran to agree to more favorable terms of the nuclear deal for Washington.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 19 that Russia sees an "unprecedented escalation" around Iran and hopes for a diplomatic solution to the conflict with the United States. He clarified that Moscow continues to develop relations with Tehran, and called on the parties to the conflict to exercise restraint.
