Attempts to supply Kiev with nuclear weapons are an acutely escalatory step. This was announced on February 24 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"It should be obvious to all those involved in such reckless actions and the international community as a whole that raising the issue in such a way is a categorically unacceptable and acutely escalating step, fraught with undermining the international legal regime for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons," the statement said on the Foreign Ministry's website.
