Amur tiger Amadeus died in Leningrad Zoo
Amadeus, an Amur tiger who had lived in the facility for 15 years, died at the age of 16 in the Leningrad Zoo. This was announced on February 24 by the zoo's press service.
"It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Amur tiger Amadeus died on February 22 from acute cardiovascular failure. His passing is a great and grievous loss for all of us. The predator was supposed to turn 17 in October," the report says.
The zoo explained that due to his advanced age, Amadeus developed age-related diseases, including liver and kidney dystrophy. He regularly received supportive therapy and special care from staff.
"He will forever remain a part of the history of the Leningrad Zoo and our hearts," the institution's press service added.
Amadeus came to the Leningrad Zoo at the age of one year and lived here almost all his life. Amur tigers in captivity usually live about 15 years, so Amadeus was considered a long-lived among his relatives.
