The intensification of discussions about the possible deployment of nuclear weapons in Ukraine fits into the logic of recent events and is not accidental. This was stated to Izvestia on February 24 by political scientist and publicist Georgy Dibrov.

He recalled statements by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky about the revision of the Budapest Memorandum and the discussion of strategic stability issues, which, according to him, did not receive support from Western countries. The expert believes that the current attempts to re-raise the issue of the deployment of nuclear weapons in Ukraine are aimed at disrupting peace initiatives and prolonging the conflict.

"By their actions, Great Britain and France are pushing the world to create an international geopolitical crisis of the maximum, "red level." The topic of expanding the "nuclear club" is not at the top of the UN Security Council's agenda. In this regard, the actions of Great Britain and France can be considered as incitement to create a dirty nuclear bomb in Ukraine," the political scientist said.

In addition, in his opinion, against the background of the termination of the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START Treaty), the escalation of the nuclear issue is becoming particularly dangerous. Dibrov said that such steps could be aimed at provoking Russia to take retaliatory measures.

"Therefore, despite attempts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis by supporters of peace, only three governments want the conflict to continue — Britain, France and Germany. The rest of the European countries supporting Ukraine will cease any support after the main sponsors of the interim government in Kiev stop financing them. This will make it possible to cancel even the very idea of deploying nuclear weapons in Ukraine," the expert concluded.

On this day, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR RF) reported that Britain and France intend to arm Ukraine with nuclear weapons. We are talking about the covert transfer of European components, equipment and technologies in this field to the Ukrainian side. A small-sized TN75 warhead from the French-made M51.1 submarine-launched ballistic missile is being considered for the proposed deliveries.
