Scammers call relatives of participants in a special military operation (SVO) under the guise of commanders or colleagues, report injuries and awards, and then force them to transfer money or give a text message code. This was announced on January 24 in the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation together with the portal "Explain.rf".

Sometimes scammers intimidate victims with "data leaks" or criminal cases due to the alleged financing of unfriendly countries, forcing them to transfer cash to a courier.

"When a loved one is on the front line, any news about them is worth its weight in gold. This is what scammers use," the message on the Telegram channel says.

The attackers also create chat rooms in messengers for those who have lost contact with the fighters. They send out virus files under the guise of "prisoner of war lists" or "photo albums."
