Over the past weekend and holidays, 513 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 60 people were killed and 698 injured. 48 of the dead were drivers or passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on February 24 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 129 accidents involving pedestrians, 12 people were killed, and 124 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 28 child pedestrians, 18 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places.

Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 49 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 80 outside their area of operation. In addition, 18 bus accidents were recorded on Russian roads over the weekend, in which there were no fatalities, but 26 road users, including one child, needed medical attention. 11 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

84 accidents involving minors were registered, 96 young road users were injured, including 67 passengers. Five children were killed.: three passengers and two pedestrians.

So, in the Yaroslavl region, a 47-year-old female passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a place allowed for overtaking, where she collided with a truck. The woman responsible for the car accident and her two passengers were killed in the accident, including a 13-year-old schoolboy who was wearing a seat belt in the back seat of the car.

In the Moscow region, on the territory of one of the cottage settlements, a 40-year-old crossover driver towed two tubing tubes to his car, on which he decided to take his minor children— a daughter and a son, for a ride. As a result, such entertainment ended in tragedy: one of the tubes with an eight-year-old girl in it got under the rear right wheel of a car. The second grader died.

In St. Petersburg, a 38-year-old truck driver did not notice the child when starting along the sidewalk in a residential area and turning right and ran over a six-year-old boy who, accompanied by his grandmother, was walking along the sidewalk in the direction he was traveling in from the right. A young pedestrian was killed

The State Traffic Inspectorate urges motorists to always be attentive, collected and disciplined when driving vehicles. The agency advises against risky driving, distraction, exceeding the speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking, entering the lane of oncoming traffic even in the permitted places and other dangerous maneuvers.

"Drivers need to be especially careful in populated areas, especially when turning into the surrounding area, driving in a residential area, near shops, as well as parking areas of shopping malls. When approaching such places, you should slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to have time to stop and let pedestrians, including children, pass," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The Traffic Police also remind parents of underage pedestrians to be more attentive to their children and try to ensure maximum safety for them. Parents-drivers should categorically exclude from the list of winter entertainment the towing of tubing, sleds or snowmobiles by children, since such unreasonable "fun" of adults almost inevitably leads to injury or death of young road users, the department emphasizes.

Earlier, on February 21, it became known that Moscow recorded the lowest death rate in road accidents among the regions of Russia last year.
