Bank deposit rates will continue to gradually decrease following the key rate, but deposits will retain their status as one of the main accumulation tools for Russians. Magomed Gamzaev, Director of Financial Product Development at the Compare service, told Izvestia on February 24.

According to him, despite the noticeable decrease in profitability, deposits are still an understandable and low-risk way to store savings. In the coming months, deposit rates will be adjusted under the influence of inflation dynamics, the volume of liquidity in the banking system, and the regulator's general policy of easing monetary policy.

"With a gradual reduction in interest rates in 2026, there may be a smooth flow of assets into investment instruments and alternative ways of accumulating with higher returns, but this will be more likely to be a correction of about 5-10%, since deposits still remain a key low—risk option for storing savings," Gamzaev said.

The expert believes that in the current conditions, the optimal strategy may be to allocate funds for different placement periods. It is advisable to allocate part of the amount to short—term deposits in order to obtain a higher interest income, and the other part to longer-term deposits in order to fix the rate for an extended period.

"In 2026, deposits will remain a reliable and understandable savings tool, although their profitability will decrease compared to previous years," Gamzaev concluded.

On the same day, it became known that, according to the Finuslugi financial marketplace index, during the week the average deposit rates for a period of three months dropped to a two—year low of 14.2% per annum, for a period of six months — to a one-and-a-half-year 13.97%. At the same time, the average deposit rate for a period of one year has stabilized at 12.8%. In the future, the rates will continue to decrease. However, despite the growing popularity of alternative products, deposits will remain the main instrument of accumulation for the population.
