- The Kremlin announced the consequences of Britain's interference in the negotiations on Ukraine
Russia has always been focused on resolving the conflict in Ukraine and still maintains its openness to a diplomatic solution, but Britain's interference in the peace talks has returned the parties to the "military track." This was announced on February 24 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"From the very beginning, efforts have been made to end this peacefully. An agreement was drawn up, and so on and so forth. And then, after the UK intervened in this peace process, the matter returned to the military track again," he said.
The Kremlin's official representative said that the Russian side, whose consistent position is "well clear," continues efforts aimed at achieving peace. According to him, the government had not abandoned the hope of ending the conflict through negotiations from the very beginning of the special operation. He clarified that currently everything depends on Kiev's actions.
Peskov stressed that Russia's interests would be secured in any case. He added that many of its goals have already been achieved, but the special operation continues to achieve the main one — ensuring the safety of people who have lived and are living in the East of Ukraine.
British Defense Minister John Healey said two days earlier that his country was ready to be the first to send troops to Ukraine. According to him, sending European troops to the territory controlled by Kiev will allegedly mark the beginning of negotiations on a peaceful settlement.
On February 24, the press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation reported that the United Kingdom, together with France, intends to arm Ukraine with nuclear weapons. Peskov said at the same time that this desire was a blatant violation of international law. He clarified that Russia's nuclear weapons plans will be taken into account during the ongoing negotiations, as they are potentially extremely dangerous.
