The visit of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to Kiev may be related to the discussion of new military initiatives, including the possible transfer of nuclear weapons (nuclear weapons) by Great Britain and France to Ukraine. This was stated to Izvestia on February 24 by former special forces officer, retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk.

He noted that such visits are often accompanied by the coordination of military and political decisions, which are not always made public.

"Ukraine claimed nuclear weapons back in 2022. Our intelligence regularly publishes information that France, the United Kingdom and the United States are allegedly working to ensure that Kiev has nuclear weapons. I believe that this is not a weapon that can be produced in Ukraine. Most likely, we can talk about components from France and the UK," said the military expert.

He added that even a limited amount of ammunition, if allowed to appear, would be considered as a factor of military deterrence. According to him, if Ukraine gets two or three such munitions, as supporters of this idea suggest, they may try to use them to stop the advance of Russian troops. The expert stressed that such a development of events is a serious factor, while the corresponding risks, according to him, are under the control of the Russian special services.

Matviychuk also said that the appearance of nuclear weapons in Ukraine would be a new stage of the conflict.

"Russia has unequivocally stated that nuclear weapons cannot appear in Ukraine. The countries that transfer it will automatically become targets for our nuclear forces," he concluded.

On this day, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR RF) reported that Britain and France intend to arm Ukraine with nuclear weapons. We are talking about the covert transfer of European components, equipment and technologies in this field to the Ukrainian side. A small-sized TN75 warhead from the French-made M51.1 submarine-launched ballistic missile is being considered for the proposed deliveries.

In addition, it became known that the head of the European Commission arrived in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. Upon arrival, she was presented with a bouquet of flowers in a yellow and blue color scheme.

Prior to that, in February 2022, at the Munich Conference, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky declared his readiness to reconsider Kiev's renunciation of nuclear weapons and initiate consultations within the framework of the Budapest Memorandum. He noted that in the absence of security guarantees, the country may question the decisions of 1994. At the same time, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine does not have nuclear weapons, but it has the right to demand real security guarantees.
