Winter fishing can have a positive effect on a person's mental, emotional and physical condition, but if safety measures are not followed, it can pose serious health risks. This was reported on the Delovoy Peterburg portal.

According to Ksenia Mosunova, founder of the Institute of Fundamental and Applied Psychology, staying in nature and by the water helps to reduce stress levels and prevent emotional burnout.

"Fishing is an excellent tool for psychophysical rehabilitation. It is especially useful for those who are under chronic stress or on the verge of burnout. And the rest will be useful for prevention," the expert noted.

Doctors also point to physical activity during winter fishing. Drilling holes and moving on ice involve the muscles of the back, shoulder girdle and legs, contributing to improved blood circulation. According to Svetlana Burnatskaya, a professional pathologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg clinic), such activity can serve as an alternative to fitness, especially for those who do not attend the gym.

The catch itself also brings additional benefits. Winter fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and trace elements, and in the cold season it often has a higher nutritional value.

However, experts warn of possible risks. Prolonged exposure to the cold puts a strain on the cardiovascular system and can cause vascular spasms.

"Prolonged sitting can also lead to spinal problems and congestion in the veins. In addition, frosty air can reduce the local immunity of the respiratory tract, increasing the risk of colds," Burnatskaya stressed.

In addition, there is a risk of snow blindness. Nikolay Shchemerov, an ophthalmologist at the Happy View network of opticians, explained that snow reflects up to 90% of ultraviolet radiation. As a result, the eyes receive a double dose of sunlight — direct and reflected. Symptoms of photophthalmia may appear after a few hours in the form of pain, photophobia, and lacrimation.

Experts recommend following safety rules: use multi-layered warm clothing, do regular warm-ups, avoid direct contact with ice, and be sure to wear sunglasses labeled UV400 and polarized. This reduces eye strain and reduces the risk of corneal damage.

In addition, Shchemerov advises fishermen to get a jacket with a deep hood to protect their eyes from the wind. It doesn't hurt to have moisturizing drops without preservatives in the medicine cabinet to stabilize the tear film and prevent dry eyes.

On January 9, Elena Kosheleva, Director of Sberbank Insurance projects, told Izvestia about the dangers of winter entertainment and named security measures. According to her, to reduce risks, it is important to choose official and equipped places for recreation. Do not replace the ice rink with a frozen lake and do not go downhill on a snowmobile along a "wild" forest highway. Equally important is the right choice of clothes. Specialized equipment for downhill skiing, snowboarding, or winter hiking is best suited for outdoor games and sports.
