The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said on February 24 that the Russian side was concerned about the claims of nuclear weapons voiced by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in 2022.

"We were also seriously concerned about Zelensky's claims to possess nuclear weapons publicly voiced in February 2022 at the Munich Security Conference, which posed real risks to Russia and strategic stability in general," the Russian Foreign Ministry's press service quoted her as saying on the Telegram channel.

According to Zakharova, this destroyed the key foundations of Ukrainian statehood, namely: neutral, non-aligned and nuclear-weapon-free status.

In addition, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Russia continues to engage in dialogue with partners who are interested in forming a system of equal and indivisible Eurasian security.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on January 29 that Ukraine had become a "pawn" in the geopolitical game of the West, which uses the country to create a threat to the security of the Russian Federation. According to him, Russia views the Ukrainian conflict as a broad clash between Russia and the West, since Ukraine is a "pawn" used by Europe to threaten Russia's security at the border.
