The North American Joint Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the Northern Command of the United States Armed Forces (USNORTHCOM) have announced joint exercises involving Canada and Denmark. The maneuvers will take place in Alaska and Greenland until mid-March. This was announced on February 23 by the USNORTHCOM press service.
"NORAD and the Northern Command of the US Armed Forces <...> will conduct joint ARCTIC EDGE 2026 (AE26) field exercises in various areas from Alaska to Greenland from February 23 to March 13, 2026," the statement said.
It is noted that AE26 includes the participation of Denmark, Canada, the Alaska National Guard, as well as interagency partners, including the FBI, the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Alaska Department of Homeland Security, state and local law enforcement agencies. The maneuvers are aimed at increasing combat readiness, demonstrating capabilities and strengthening coordination between allies in the Arctic region. During the training, it is planned to practice repelling threats from cruise missiles, measures to counter unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as survival and movement skills in the Arctic.
"Municipalities located closest to the designated military exercise areas include Anchorage, Kodiak, Fairbanks, and Kotzebue in Alaska, as well as Kangerlussuaq and Nuuk in Greenland," the statement said.
On January 19, the Joint Aerospace Defense Command of North America announced the imminent arrival of several aircraft at the US space base in Greenland. It is noted that NORAD's actions are aimed at resolving the situation between the United States, Canada and Denmark.
