- Likhachev announced the readiness of the Russian nuclear industry for possible EU sanctions
The Russian nuclear industry is ready for the European Union (EU) sanctions, but their effect will be negative for Europe. This was announced on February 23 by Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom State Corporation, after a meeting with Serbian President Alexander Vucic.
"One gets the impression that the favorite sport in the European Union is rake jumping <...> Because the effect will, of course, be negative. Are we ready for this? (to sanctions. — Ed.) Of course, yes," Likhachev said during a press conference.
He stressed that Russia has been developing the nuclear energy industry since the 1950s and has many international partners in this field. According to him, the country will not be left without work, and European countries may face economic problems due to their own decisions.
The leader of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said earlier that day that the EU foreign ministers had not reached an agreement on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. This is the first time since the start of the special military operation (SVO), when the EU was unable to agree on a new package of sanctions against Russia before February 24.
