The United States announced the cancellation of a number of duties from February 24.
Due to the decision of the US Supreme Court, duties on a number of goods will cease from February 24. This was announced on February 23 by the country's Customs and Border Control Service.
"Duties imposed in accordance with the IEEPA Act (International Emergency Economic Powers Act. — Ed.) on the basis of the following presidential decrees, including all changes and amendments, will no longer be valid and will not be charged on goods imported for consumption or seized from a warehouse for consumption," the text of the document says.
The measure will enter into force at 00:00 (08:00 Moscow time) on February 24 of this year, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".
On February 21, US President Donald Trump announced an increase in previously imposed duties on imports from all countries of the world from 10% to 15%. He stressed that this measure is aimed at protecting American manufacturers and strengthening the country's economy.
Prior to that, on February 20, Trump signed a law according to which all countries will be subject to a 10% duty on exports of goods to the United States. The White House added that tariffs on goods will be imposed for 150 days, and some categories will not be subject to duties at all. Among them are a number of metals, energy carriers, some minerals, and some pharmaceuticals.
On February 20, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled against Trump's import duties. The authorities clarified that the head of the White House had no authority to impose either a number of economic or other tariffs aimed at combating declared emergencies.
