The situation in most of Mexico remains stable, despite local incidents and road closures following the operation to eliminate the head of the Jalisco New Generation cartel, El Mencho. This was announced by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on February 23.

"The Ministry of National Defense announced the operation [to eliminate the head of the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel] conducted today by the Mexican army and the National Guard, which led to various roadblocks and other retaliatory actions. In most parts of the country, work is carried out as usual," the head of state wrote.

Sheinbaum also noted that the federal center maintains "absolute coordination with the governments of all states" and urged citizens to remain calm.
