Putin congratulates Russians on Defender of the Fatherland Day
On February 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the citizens of the country, as well as veterans, personnel and civilian personnel of the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces) on Defender of the Fatherland Day.
"The date of February 23 has been celebrated in our country for many decades as one of the most significant public holidays. He became a symbol of sincere national love for our defenders, pride in the army and navy of the state, for those who devoted their lives to the service of the Motherland, who reliably guards its sovereignty and security, is faithful to the military oath and honestly and conscientiously performs his professional duty. From generation to generation, we cherish the memory of every page of the military chronicle of the Fatherland," he said.
According to the president, Russian citizens cherish the memory of the heroic pages of the country's history and pass it on from generation to generation. This memory was formed thanks to the military skill of great generals, the indomitable will and courage of soldiers and commanders.
Putin recalled that 2026 was declared the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.
"We honor this sacred unity and know that from time immemorial, people of different nationalities and faiths have risen up to defend the country. Feelings of patriotism and responsibility for the fate of the motherland consolidated their unity, inspired them to military exploits and great immortal victories," the head of state emphasized.
The Russian President added that the modern generation worthily continues the traditions of valor and honor bequeathed by their ancestors during a special military operation. There they defend the interests of the country and its peoples.
"The ability to win together for common goals is the colossal strength of our army and our multinational society. It's been like this for centuries, and I'm sure it will always be like this. I bow low to all those who are fighting for the Fatherland. Eternal memory to the heroes who fell for our Motherland," Putin said.
The President of the country announced the continuation of work to strengthen the army and navy, taking into account the development of the international situation based on the combat experience gained during the military operation. The focus will be on Russian industry, science, industrial and high-tech companies. Putin called the development of the nuclear industry a priority, which guarantees Russia's security and makes it possible to effectively ensure strategic deterrence and the balance of power in the world.
"We will qualitatively increase the potential of all other branches and branches of the armed forces, increase their combat readiness, mobility, and ability to operate in any, the most difficult conditions. And, of course, we will increase the pace of developing promising systems for the armed forces," he said.
The Russian President expressed confidence that the equipment developed in Russia will always be in safe hands.
"Our soldiers and officers are true patriots, people of special training and indomitable will, the backbone of the state and society. I thank all the soldiers of Russia for their valiant service. All the best to your families, relatives and friends. The people of Russia are with you and believe in you. Happy holidays!" he concluded.
Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated annually in Russia on February 23. For many years now, all men, regardless of age and rank, have been congratulated on this day. But by tradition, first of all, those who served in the army or are currently serving in the country's armed forces are honored.
The history of Defender of the Fatherland Day dates back over 100 years. It was first celebrated in 1919 as Red Army Day on the anniversary of its formation. Then the holiday was called the Day of the Soviet Army, and later — the Day of the Soviet Army and Navy. It had this name until 1992. Three years later, the current name appeared.
