Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Alexander Syrsky acknowledged the superiority of Russian aviation on the line of combat contact. He stated this in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde on February 22.

"This is an extremely difficult period for my country and my people. We are facing the largest and most powerful army in Europe, and this conflict exceeds all imaginable and unimaginable scales. I am striving to demonstrate the resilience of our armed forces during this incredible period of struggle," he said.

According to the newspaper, Syrsky noted that the Russian side is actively using guided aerial bombs on the front line, which provides it with a significant advantage in the air. The article emphasizes that the use of correctable ammunition makes it possible to strike at the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at a significant depth.

The publication also draws attention to the continued pressure on the Ukrainian forces in a number of areas.

On February 12, Syrsky announced the creation of a new branch of the armed forces due to problems with air defense. According to him, in the last two years, the effectiveness of the Ukrainian air defense has been about 74%, and this figure is planned to be increased through new technologies.

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, during an expanded meeting of the board of the Russian Ministry of Defense in December 2025, stated that the Russian army is twice as large as the Armed Forces of Ukraine in terms of the number of drones. According to him, since the beginning of 2025, over 130,000 trench electronic warfare (EW) systems have been put on the front line, which is 6.5 times more than last year.
