Scientists have recorded a sharp drop in solar activity
Solar activity has decreased to its lowest level in the last two years. This was announced on February 22 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to scientists, the index of solar activity on this day reached zero for the first time since April 2024. The failure of activity may be prolonged, but a complete cessation of activity at the current stage of the solar cycle is unlikely.
"It is completely unclear at what resources this trend can be reversed now," the researchers emphasized.
The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS reported on February 16 about a strong flare on the left edge of the Sun. It occurred at about 08:00 Moscow time and was accompanied by a plasma release that went sideways, so it posed no threat to the Earth. Experts noted that the flare looked anomalous against the background of low solar activity and occurred on the far side of the star.
