- The political scientist linked the non-issuance of visas to the Belarusian delegation to the bureaucracy in the United States
The non-issuance of American visas to the Belarusian delegation to participate in the meeting of the "Peace Council" is connected with the US bureaucratic apparatus. This was announced by Dmitry Drobnitsky, an American political scientist, in an interview with Izvestia on February 21.
He admitted that the current situation could be a sabotage of the decisions of US President Donald Trump. According to him, the American leader wanted the Belarusian delegation to attend the event, but faced resistance from the bureaucratic apparatus of the United States Department of State.
"The bureaucracy, it's like this. You wanted this, but now we're going to let you make an exception. Did you think you were the president? No, the president is here, we are the authorities here, relatively speaking. Well, that's it, that's probably how it was," the political scientist clarified.
Drobnitsky added that they would surely apologize to the Belarusian side, explaining the incident as an employee's mistake. At the same time, he recalled that Russian officials also face similar situations.
"You see, where it is controlled by the highest echelon of the American <...>, it still more or less works there. And here it's a little mess, yes, that's it. That's really a curious thing. As soon as it goes down one step, everything immediately gets bogged down in this bureaucratic delays," the political scientist believes.
On February 19, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reported that the United States had not issued visas to the Belarusian delegation to attend a meeting of the Peace Council in Washington. The ministry stressed that initially the invitation from the US president was sent to the head of the Belarusian state.
On February 11, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko received an invitation to attend the first meeting of the Peace Council in the United States, but it was reported that he would not be able to attend. It was clarified that the invitation was received too late and the working schedule of the Belarusian leader for these dates had already been approved.
