Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that the active participation of the new BRICS members can change the foundations and dynamics of international trade. He announced this on February 20.

"Half of humanity will participate in the activities of the BRICS, and a significant part of the world's GDP will be in the BRICS. This will establish a new dynamic in trade policy, as well as in cultural and diplomatic relations between the countries," he said in an interview with India Today.

The President stressed that Brazil supports multilateral trade and does not intend to review relations with priority partners.

"We don't want a second Cold War. Brazil wants to cooperate with the United States, China, India, and Russia. I am a supporter of free trade, multilateralism and harmony between peoples," said Lula da Silva.

Brazil handed over the BRICS presidency to India in 2026. The President is currently on a state visit to India. After that, he will travel to South Korea, and then return to Brazil to prepare for the presidential campaign, timed to coincide with the elections to be held in October 2026.

On February 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the regulations on the National Committee for Business Cooperation within the framework of the BRICS. According to the document, the committee will ensure the interaction of federal executive authorities in the development of multilateral and bilateral business cooperation within the framework of the BRICS.
