French farmers accused Macron of ignoring the crisis in agriculture
French President Emmanuel Macron, according to representatives of farmers, shows interest only in his "little presidential show", ignoring the pressing issues of agriculture. This was announced on February 21 by the representative of the farmers' union "Peasant Confederation" Thomas Gibert.
"We met with Macron a few weeks ago and saw that his only interest was to save his little presidential show, this traditional ceremony," Giber said.
According to him, the president did not answer important questions for farmers about sanitary policy, total slaughter of livestock and income of farmers. Therefore, farmers came out to protest, demanding an urgent solution to the issues of regulating the economic system.
The trade union representative also expressed concern about a possible increase in livestock morbidity in the coming months due to a lack of support from the authorities. The reason for the total slaughter of livestock was infection with nodular dermatitis, a deadly disease for animals.
On January 13, French farmers entered Paris on tractors to protest against the future trade agreement between the EU and MERCOSUR (an economic bloc that includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay), which, in their opinion, threatens the development of local agriculture. The demonstration was organized by FNSEA (National Federation of Agricultural Exploiters Syndicates), one of the largest agricultural unions in France.
