Fico announced a possible shutdown of emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the emergency power supply to Ukraine will be stopped if Kiev does not restore oil supplies to the republic next week. This was announced on February 21 by Devdiscourse.
"The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the field of energy supply between the two countries. Slovakia depends on the constant flow of oil from Ukraine, and any disruptions may affect the country's energy stability," the report says.
According to him, Bratislava expects the resumption of transit and fulfillment of obligations in the energy sector. Otherwise, the Slovak side will be forced to take retaliatory measures.
Fico stressed that we are talking about emergency electricity supplies, which are carried out as part of the support of the Ukrainian energy system. He noted that further decisions will depend on the actions of the Ukrainian side and the development of the situation in the coming days.
As it became known on February 18, the Slovnaft refinery in Slovakia will suspend exports to Ukraine. It was clarified that Slovakia may stop supplying electricity to Ukraine due to the suspension of oil supplies via the Druzhba oil pipeline.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 17 that the issue of a possible increase in oil supplies to Hungary through Croatia was being worked out at the level of relevant companies, and Ukraine's position complicated the situation in this area.
