The bodies of eight people were lifted by divers from Lake Baikal to the surface. This was announced on February 21 by a source of Izvestia.

It is specified that there is a child's body among them. Among the dead are seven Chinese citizens, as well as one Russian who was the driver. In addition to the bodies, 12 personal items were brought to the surface.

The bodies are planned to be transported to the morgue of the village of Ust-Ordynsky in the Irkutsk region for forensic examination.

The day before, a car with tourists in the cabin went under the ice of Lake Baikal. Later, it became known about the discovery of both the bodies of the victims themselves and the failed UAZ itself. At the same time, they reported on the identification of all those who were in the car at the time of its collapse. They turned out to be a 44-year-old local resident and a family from China, whose data was preserved in the hotel's database: a married couple, their 14-year-old child and another relative.

After a while, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) clarified that this group of tourists did not arrange an excursion through tour operators, and the route along which it traveled was not, according to preliminary data, coordinated with representatives of travel agencies and rescuers.

On February 20, Denis Kuznetsov, a tour guide, told Izvestia that Chinese tourists did not travel to their chosen area legally. According to him, the driver of the drowned car, Nikolai Dorzheev, was a local resident who lived near the island of Olkhon, near which the tragedy occurred.
