In Denmark, a massive release of sperm whales onto the shore has been recorded, the causes of which are still unknown. This was reported on February 20 by the Danish newspaper Bornholms Tidende.

"Four sperm whales washed ashore in the area between the island of Fano and the Skalingen peninsula, located off the coast of Esbjerg," the publication notes.

Local self-defense units were deployed to protect the stranded animals. Scientists are still unable to explain why there is such a massive occurrence of sperm whales in Danish waters. Investigations are underway to clarify the circumstances.

On November 12, 2025, Popular Science magazine reported that scientists from Project CETI and the University of California at Berkeley had identified new structural elements of vocalizations in sperm whales, similar to human vowel sounds and diphthongs. The study showed that whales are able to modulate the frequency of clicks, forming stable patterns and complex communication systems that resemble human speech in structure.
