The investigation has established the identities of all eight people who died in a sunken car in Lake Baikal. This was reported to Izvestia on February 21 by the Investigative Committee of Russia.
The department noted that the surviving man, who was able to get out of the car on his own, has already been questioned by investigators. He is at the campsite.
The governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, reported on February 20 that a sunken UAZ car with people was discovered near Cape Khoboy using underwater cameras that allowed to see the bodies of the dead. He clarified that among those in the car were a local driver and tourists who arrived on their own. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia said on the same day that foreign tourists did not arrange a trip through tour operators, and the route was not coordinated with rescuers. After the tragedy, tour operators temporarily abandoned the use of ice routes and organize the transportation of tourists by land.
