The director of the Ural construction company was sentenced for the death of two workers

A court in the Sverdlovsk region has handed down a verdict in the case of the death of two workers of a company carrying out repair work on the territory of a correctional colony (IK). This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

It was established that in May 2023, the CEO of Novy Mir LLC signed a contract with IC No. 5 to repair the roof in workshop No. 2 "Press". In June and July, he recruited four people with no special skills.

In addition, the head of the company did not collect the necessary information about the condition of the workshop structures, and also systematically violated the technology of work and safety rules. At the same time, as the head, he was obliged to organize strict observance of these rules, the prosecutor's office emphasizes.

On July 20, 2023, the roof of the workshop collapsed, dragging three workers with it. The men fell from a height of 12 m, two of them died, and another was seriously injured. The colony suffered damage of 1.5 million rubles, writes the news agency " <url>".

The CEO of Novy Mir LLC has pleaded not guilty. The court found him guilty under Part 3 of Article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of safety rules that negligently caused the death of two people and serious harm to human health") and sentenced him to three and a half years of forced labor.

The court also banned the man from holding senior positions in construction and repair companies for two years. In favor of the relatives of the dead men and the victim, the court sought compensation.

Earlier in February, it was reported that the Irkutsk region had completed the investigation of a criminal case into the death of a worker who was trapped between the cradle of a car lift and a pipeline. His death was caused by mechanical compression asphyxia.
