Alexander Tolmachev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy (United Russia), told Izvestia on February 20 that the term "zumerstvo" should not be used as a synonym for historical and political illiteracy.

On the same day, social activists proposed to consolidate responsibility for zumerism, which is expressed in the historical and political illiteracy of young people. Reaching the age of majority should impose an obligation on a citizen to take special educational courses.

"One gets the impression that the term "zumerism" refers to ordinary ignorance. It is not entirely clear why the neologism is linked to a specific generation," the deputy stressed.

According to him, the lack of knowledge in the field of history and politics is found among people of different ages, so it is wrong to place responsibility solely on young people. Tolmachev also stressed that the word "buzzer" should not have a negative connotation.

"There are many smart, talented, hardworking, well—versed in history and patriotic people among the zoomers," he said.

The parliamentarian recalled that the updated law on youth policy has consolidated the obligation of patriotic education. Currently, the State is implementing a set of measures aimed at fostering civic responsibility among the younger generation.

In addition, Tolmachev provided data on the activities of youth associations. Thus, there are 13 million people in the "Movement of the First", about 2 million in the "Unarmia", and the number of activists of the "Young Guard of United Russia" exceeds 200 thousand. The Russian Military Historical Society and projects related to memorial vigils are also working.

"The Ministry Training project is also aimed at educating patriots. Many of the guys who have already taken part in it have created initiatives to help participants in a special military operation. The children understand the importance of their feat, respect courage, and strive to do their part to support the heroes. This year, the project will extend to the whole of Russia. The guys who are already participating in it are careful and attentive to their neighbors, ready to help and take care of them, and feel responsible for the country. The state is already taking important steps on a federal scale to foster a harmonious, patriotic and socially responsible personality," the deputy concluded.

On February 10, Anton Kotyakov, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation, said that the prevailing stereotypes about buzzer employees born approximately in the period from 1997 to the 2010s should not affect their perception by the employer. It is important to create favorable conditions for young workers and to learn how to interact with them.
