The share of new cars in the SUV segment, which includes crossovers and SUVs, reached 71.1% of all passenger cars sold in the Russian car market by the end of 2025. The analytical agency Autostat reported this on February 20.

According to analysts, this result was a record in the history of market observations. In addition, the share of SUVs exceeded the 70% mark for the first time by the end of the year.

The previous record was recorded in 2024 and amounted to 67.7%. At the same time, such records have been updated annually since 2016. For example, in 2017, the share of SUVs exceeded the milestone of 40%, in 2021 - 50%, and in 2023 — 60%.

For comparison, in 2007, crossovers and SUVs accounted for only one in six cars sold (16.7%), in 2008 - about one in five (19.5%), and in 2010 — almost one in four (24.3%). The share of SUVs for the first time exceeded the 30% mark back in 2012.

Earlier, on February 19, it was reported that new cars in Russia turned out to be more expensive than in Germany, South Korea, Japan and other countries. Such statistics were shared by Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat agency, who compiled a rating of countries in terms of average prices for new cars. He pointed out that cars in Russia are becoming one of the most expensive in the world.
