Used car sales increased in Russia in January

By the end of January 2026, 437 thousand used passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 4% more than in January 2025. This is stated in the message of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on February 24.

Almost a quarter (24.2%) of the secondary car market at the beginning of the year was accounted for by the Lada brand (105.6 thousand cars). Toyota took the second place (40.4 thousand units; 10% share).

Kia and Hyundai also crossed the 5% threshold (26.7 thousand and 25.7 thousand units, respectively). Nissan, Volkswagen, Renault, Chevrolet, Ford and BMW rounded out the top ten.

In the top 10, only two brands have negative market dynamics compared to January last year - Lada (-5%) and Toyota (-5%). It is positive for the other eight, and Renault has the best record (+23%).

Earlier, on February 17, it was reported that sales of used passenger cars of Chinese brands in Russia increased by 44% in 2025, reaching 283 thousand cars. The share of used Chinese passenger cars in the secondary car market of the Russian Federation increased from 3.3% to 4.5% over the year. At the same time, the entire used car market in Russia grew by only 3% last year.
