Ukraine will receive the first tranche of the EU loan worth €90 billion in April.
The first tranches of the large-scale loan agreement for €90 billion are scheduled for April this year. This was stated on February 20 by the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, during a press conference in Krakow.
"The EU is moving forward with a loan of €90 billion, and the first funds are expected to be paid in April," Kallas said.
The meeting was attended by the defense Ministers of Italy, France, Poland, Germany and the United Kingdom. The political decision to allocate this amount for the period 2026-2027 was fixed by the EU leaders in December 2025.
The Politico newspaper reported on January 12 that Paris wants to ban Kiev from using an EU loan of €90 billion to purchase non-European weapons. The Netherlands and France are arguing over the terms of the EU loan, which is given to Ukraine for military and budgetary support.
The decision to transfer a loan of €90 billion to the Ukrainian side was made by the participants of the European Union summit in December last year. At the same time, the Council of the European Union reported on February 4 that the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia refused to participate in the financing scheme for Ukraine.
