The guide told about illegal trips of tourists to Lake Baikal
On February 20, guide Denis Kuznetsov told Izvestia about tourists who use the services of unregistered tour operators to travel around Lake Baikal.
Earlier it was reported about the death of seven Chinese tourists who fell through the ice on Lake Baikal. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reported that tourists had agreed on a trip with local residents, rather than registering it with official tour operators.
"It is a common story that Chinese tourists do not find themselves on Lake Baikal legally. Tour operators carry them there in a "gray way". They just hire a car and send them out. That is, it's all unofficial, and who's taking them where — they don't have anything officially registered," said the guide.
Kuznetsov also confirmed that the driver of the sunken car, Nikolai Dorzheev, is a local resident who lives near Olkhon Island in Lake Baikal.
On the same day, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, using underwater cameras, managed to find the bodies of seven people who were in a vehicle that sank on Lake Baikal. Diving operations were planned to get them out of the water. It is noted that the car, moving on the ice, fell into a fault, the width of which was 3 m and the depth was 18 m. The tragedy occurred, as confirmed in the text, near Cape Khoboy in the Olkhon district.
