"Crybaby" by Sergey Zhukov and CTC TV channel will be transformed into a musical

The Russian hit TV series "Crybaby", created by the team of producer Sergei Zhukov and broadcast on the CTC TV channel, will be adapted for the theater stage and shown at the Moscow Musical Theater. The project will be implemented by the Hands Up Production film studio.

"The proposal of Sergey Zhukov's team and the CTC channel to think about creating a theatrical musical "Crybaby" after the success of the first two seasons of the series of the same name seemed to me extremely interesting. First of all, because we will be able to work with new material for us, both vital and artistic. The Moscow Musical Theater, together with new talented creative partners, will try to make a vivid, relevant performance about modern youth, interesting for audiences of all ages," said Mikhail Shvydkoi, artistic director of the Moscow Musical Theater.

According to the idea, during the production, the audience will be told the story of 15–year-old Masha, who moved from the capital to the fictional provincial town of Novomorsk, and found her soulmate in a new place. The girl, whose role, as well as on the screen, will be played by 17–year-old actress and singer Nina Zhukova, at some point buys a guitar and decides to organize her own musical group called "Crybaby". While working on the creation of songs, the founder of the creative association realizes that her musical instrument is magical, as the compositions performed with it can cause fantastic events, fulfill dreams and even transform the lives of others.

It has not yet been announced whether 20–year-old Krasnoyarsk-born actor Vanya Dmitrienko will play the main character in the musical. Everyone under the age of 25 will also be able to try their hand thanks to an open casting. "While working on the first season of the series, I realized how many interesting and multifaceted young people there are in our country. I am glad that we can once again reveal musical and acting talents, fulfill someone's dream and tell a story in a new way that millions of viewers have loved," said Zhukov, producer of the musical, showrunner and music producer of Crybaby.

Currently, the creators of the TV series are also working on the creation of the third season of the series. This process, as noted, goes hand in hand with casting and script adaptation. The first two seasons of the TEFI Kids Award-winning "Crybabies" were watched by 30 million viewers. A music album was developed and released for each part of the TV story, which included songs played in the series. One of the main soundtracks called "Crybaby Girl" was first heard by 75,000 guests of Luzhniki Stadium, and the premiere of the second season was celebrated with a musical evening in VEGAS Crocus City.

The premiere of "Crybaby" took place on September 28, 2023. Then the audience was presented with two episodes out of eight, and the subsequent ones were released once a week, on Thursdays. The series stars Agatha Mutseniece, Irina Rozanova, Roman Mayakin, Elena Zakharova, Tatiana Orlova, Nikita Tarasov, Alexey Ozhenen, Diana Yekanaeva, Adam Kuraev, Daniil Muravyov-Izotov, Sofia Nikolaeva. One of the main roles was played by singer Vanya Dmitrienko. It was noted that the cast was specially selected for approximately the same age, as the plot of the series was about teenagers. Most of the musical accompaniment of the series was written by the composers of the Hands Up Production team.
