- Reuters has learned about the plans of five EU countries to announce a UAV protection program
The defense ministers of five European countries — Italy, Germany, Poland, Great Britain and France — are going to announce an investment plan for the development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the E5 meeting in Krakow. This was reported on February 20 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.
"We have agreed to launch an initiative to create low—cost weapons of destruction and autonomous platforms (LEAP)," follows from the statement that the defense ministers plan to make following the meeting.
The agency emphasizes that the purpose of the meeting is to "expand cooperation in the development and procurement of anti-drone systems." It is specified that the future program will use two types of countermeasures: human-controlled (anti-aircraft missile systems and complexes) and autonomous (interceptor drones).
In October last year, it was reported that the European Union (EU) plans to launch joint projects on drones and air defense (air defense) in the coming months as part of an ambitious five-year rearmament plan.
In the same month, Sergey Poletaev, a military analyst and co-founder of the Watfor project, said that the "Wall of drones" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to contain the advance of the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces) at the front, it only partially worked.
