The assault units of the North group of forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation improved their position along the front line at nine sites in the Sumy region. This was reported on February 20 in the Russian law enforcement agencies.

"The assault units <...> have advanced 300 m in nine areas. Three servicemen of the 21st separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were captured," RIA Novosti reports the text of the statement.

It is specified that the Russian military repelled a counterattack by units of the 71st separate airmobile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), using complex fire damage. Two more Ukrainian militants were captured during the battle.

In addition, an attempt to advance the 53rd separate reconnaissance battalion and the 253rd separate assault regiment "Arey" in the direction of the village of Pokrovka was thwarted by artillery strikes and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

In the Krasnopolsky district, Russian troops advanced in three areas to a distance of up to 250 m, the security forces noted.

Earlier, on February 18, it became known that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had transferred the 35th separate rifle battalion, previously stationed in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), to the Krasnopolsky district of the Sumy region. It was noted that Russian aircraft had attacked the battalion's barracks.
